George Lane
20" x 20", acrylic on gallery canvas (ORIGINAL)
An American-born Canadian politician and rancher, George Lane was one of the BIG FOUR who helped found the Calgary Stampede. He worked as a foreman at the Bar U Ranch and eventually bought it in the early 1900s. Concerned that there was no place for children to play in High River, he purchased land near the Highwood River and donated a portion to the town for a park, with the condition it always be a place for children to enjoy.
This painting was created for a public art exhibition at The Venue in High River.
