"Bruce" was the name of the mechanical shark that had been built for the filming of Jaws (1977) directed by Steven Spielberg. They started having problems with it almost immediately. Rather losing shooting days, they made some filming adjustments, which reduced the amount of time the shark would actually be seen. Instead, the pulse pounding music score by John Williams let us know when the shark was getting close, terrifying movie viewers. In the end, "Bruce" had about 4 minutes of screen time.
